Las colinas sobre Puerto del Carmen conforman el el terreno sobre el que se asienta Tías, sede de la administración local. Tías ha sido ampliamente reformada en años recientes, con varias nuevas calles, tiendas, restaurantes y talleres.
Lanzaroteños nativos e inmigrantes de toda Europa viven puerta con puerta en armonía. La pequeña iglesia local, también restaurada, marca el centro de la villa. En el teatro municipal y en la Arena de Lucha Canaria tienen lugar regularmente interesantes eventos culturales, tales como conciertos, ballets y teatro de títeres.
